About

A production company from Florianópolis bringing together production, curatorial thinking and consulting to support culturally relevant and socially engaged work.

The company's story

Chancela Naccari is a space for creating, advising on and accompanying cultural and film projects guided by social justice, ethical coherence and collective thinking.

The name grew out of a recognised ethical standard. Students, partners and collaborators began to see in Marilha Naccari's work an informal seal of sensitive quality and intention (chancela means seal in Portuguese), and in 2014 that seal became a company in Florianópolis.

Over the following decade, Chancela executive produced the short films of Rally Universitário Floripa and was city producer of the 48 Hour Film Project in Florianópolis for five years. Today it is a production company and a space for thought where ethics and aesthetics meet as transformative practice, and its main project in production is the documentary Trade-Off.

Principles

What guides the work

Every form is political

There is no neutral aesthetic; each formal choice takes a position.

Every act of listening is a choice

Listening is an active gesture of responsibility.

Nothing is produced without a commitment to responsibility

Each work begins with an ethical commitment to people, subjects and places.

Care and critique go together

Rigour does not rule out tenderness, and critique does not rule out affection.

Aesthetics must answer to the world that provokes it

Forms speak to the context they come from.
